One of the games announced at E3 this year was Darksiders: Wrath of War for the Xbox 360 and PS3. The game, which isn’t scheduled for release until late 2008, is an open-world action game and is being penned by famed comic book artist Joe Madureira, who is best known for his work with The Ultimates and X-Men, as well as the short-lived Battle Chasers series.
Darksiders places you in the role of War, one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, who, along with his cohorts Death, Pestilence and Famine, is betrayed during a war between angels and demons. After the betrayal, War sets out to regain his lost powers and… well, developer Vigil Games isn’t saying much else, though I’m sure more than a few deities will meet their end by the time the game is over.
Although primarily an action game in the vein of God of War, Darksiders will also feature a few Metroid-styled elements such as the ability to revisit locations and equip new items and powers. In addition to granting boosts in combat, your abilities will also help to unlock paths that may have been previously inaccessible.
THQ was very tight-lipped on further details, but what was revealed so far looks promising. Darksiders: Wrath of War is currently scheduled for release late next year. |
